Canberra Theatre Centre is Canberra’s premier performing arts venue, providing world class performing arts and entertainment to the people of Canberra and surrounding regions.

The Discovery & Learning Team at the Canberra Theatre Centre provides engagement opportunities and resources to enrich your teaching programs connected to each production. We also offer extended learning opportunities such as professional learning, work-experience, VET courses and masterclasses.

The venue

Canberra Theatre Centre includes the 1,239 seat Canberra Theatre, The Playhouse seating 614 and The Courtyard Studio, an intimate rehearsal and performance space that seats up to 92 patrons. The Link connects the Canberra Theatre and The Playhouse and includes exhibition and function areas. The Centre also has a comprehensive technical workshop, backstage and dressing room areas, and is fully equipped with up-to-date lighting and audio facilities.

Access

Canberra Theatre Centre offers a number of access and special assistance services, which is listed on full on our website.
It is advised that teachers arrive 30 minutes prior to the performance time if any access or special assistance is required.

Parking

The closest car park to Canberra Theatre Centre can be accessed via Theatre Lane. Give yourself a little extra time to park, as you may find that the construction of Constitution Place affects your plans. School buses have a designated drop off point on London Circuit at Civic Square.

Food/Drink

The Link foyer area is a modular space that services the needs of the Canberra Theatre and The Playhouse for pre and post-show and interval entertaining where beverages and snacks are available.

Other attractions

The Canberra Museum and Gallery (CMAG) is located in Civic Square next to the Canberra Theatre.

Designed as interactive experiences, learning programs based on CMAG exhibitions and the Nolan Collection offer a wide range of experiences with an emphasis on art and history. Programs are held in the gallery spaces with accompanying practical sessions in the studio.
