As You Like It

Pop-up Globe

As As As As As
An all-singing and dancing cast of fifteen bring you Shakespeare's hilarious comedy, As you Like it at the Pop Up Globe.

Set in 1642, and with gorgeous period costumes, this zany production by our all male company complete with human sheep, bone-crushing wrestling, live music and lyrical poetry, will have you crying with laughter.

As You Like It follows its heroine Rosalind as she flees persecution in her uncle's court, accompanied by her cousin Celia to find safety and, eventually, love, in the Forest of Arden. In the forest, they encounter a variety of memorable characters, notably the melancholy traveller Jaques who speaks many of Shakespeare's most famous speeches including

In Act II, Scene 7, line 138,
“All the world’s a stage
And all the men and women merely players;
They have their exits and their entrances,
And one man in his time plays many parts,
His acts being seven ages . . . ”

The elaborate gender reversals in the story are of particular interest in this era, the humorous and clever wordplay, and several entangled love affairs, all in a serene pastoral setting have made it one of the most produced of his plays.
