At Bendigo Venues & Events (BV&E) we engage students and teachers with educational experiences at The Capital Theatre, Ulumbarra Theatre and the Engine Room performing arts venues in Bendigo.

The venue

Bendigo Venues and Events (BV&E), a business unit of the City of Greater Bendigo, operate a suite of venues and performing arts facilities including, the Capital Theatre, Ulumbarra Theatre, the Engine Room (and Dudley House exhibition space and the Bendigo Town Hall). Our yearly Theatre Season (including Soul Food and Parlour Sessions music programs) and Education program offer a range of experiences for the entire community.

The Capital and Ulumbarra TheatresBendigo’s Performing Arts Centres host a range of musical, drama, dance, cabaret and comedy shows and workshops, with over 150 performances held each year. We aim to make arts experiences accessible for all to participate, and nurture professional practice, education and community involvement.

The Capital's main theatre seats 480, with additional rooms and neighbouring venues available for smaller performances, rehearsals, workshops and other events.

Ulumbarra is a world-class venue with a 960-seat auditorium, break-out rooms and landscaped courtyards.

Access

Wheelchair seating
Ulumbarra Theatre and The Capital both have a lift and special seating available, please let us know if these are needed at the time of your booking.

Hearing aid loop
A section of The Capital Theatre and Ulumbarra Theatre auditorium is equipped with a hearing loop sound system for use by people with hearing aids.

Companion Card
The Capital and Ulumbarra Theatre accept the Companion Card. Carers and attendants accompanying cardholders receive free entry to shows and events. A Companion Card must be presented when booking. Contact our Box Office for details.

A spare lockable function room is usually available to schools for the storage of bags, drinks, snacks and lunches. No food or drink, with the exception of water bottles, is allowed in the theatres.

Parking

Plenty of parking behind and near to The Capital Theatre and Ulumbarra Theatre - space for school buses to drive in and drop off and pick up students:

BUS drop off and pick up is available at the back of The Capital theatre complex, via Gaol Road. Tom Flood Sports venue allows for bus parking close to Ulumbarra Theatre.
Please avoid parking buses at the front of the venues because this blocks traffic.

CAR parking is available behind the venue. BUS parking is available in nearby streets.
Accessible parking
There is a disabled car parking zone adjacent to the venue and a drop off point immediately at the front of the venue for all Ulumbarra Theatre and Capital Theatre patrons.

Getting to the theatres
• The Capital theatre is centrally located in Bendigo and can be easily accessed by car/bus or public transport. Ulumbarra Theatre is situated just a short stroll away.
• Regional V-line train and bus services arrive at the Bendigo Railway station, approximately a 15 min walk from the Capital and Ulumbarra Theatres.
• Local bus services stop within a block of the Capital and Ulumbarra Theatres, with connections available from the railway station
• Schools should aim to arrive 25 minutes before show start time and allow 15 minutes to exit the building.

Food/Drink

Ulumbarra Theatre has a cafe attached which may be open during show times. A bar serving drinks and snacks may also be in service at Ulumbarra Theatre or The Capital Theatre dependent on the performance.

Other attractions

The Capital is situated in Bendigo’s View Street Arts Precinct, next door to the Bendigo Art Gallery (www.bendigoartgallery.com.au) and across the road from the La Trobe University Visual Arts Centre (www.latrobe.edu.au/vac).

Located in the CBD, the Capital is also close to a range of other attractions including:
