Hailed by parents, and teachers as a one-woman-multicultural-rock-concert-for-kids, Jungle Shimmy is a dynamic music and dance adventure across the world! With colourful props and fun, easy-to-follow dances including Belly Dance, Bollywood, Bhangra, Turkish, Egyptian, Gulf and Lebanese folk styles, everybody is up on their feet dancing. The shrill cry of a zaghareet, exotic instruments, rhythms like Khaleegi, Maqsoum and Beledi, and the world’s most unique puppet theatre draws audiences of all ages into a captivating world of culture and creative self-expression.

Session Includes:
• Stick puppet show as the audience arrives and is seated (3 mins)
• Choreographed dance introduction with Zill. Greetings in Arabic, Turkish, Hindi, Greek and English. Explanation of traditional dress (5 mins)
• Demonstration of how sound is made (5 mins)
• Introduction to Middle Eastern, Indian and African percussive instruments including Darbouka, Zill and Tef (5 mins)
• Everybody up dancing with Azura playing Darbouka. Students learn the names of rhythms from Egypt, Turkey, Lebanon and the Gulf and the associated movements (7 mins)
• Students learn the meaning of and how to perform a zaghareet (3 mins)
• Everybody up dancing. Students follow fun, easy-to-follow choreographies incorporating authentic Belly dance, Middle Eastern folk, Bhangra and Bollywood movements (7 mins)
• Ancient Egypt themed Puppet Show – The story of Isis and Ra (15 minutes)
• Wing dance performed by Azura (4 mins)
