One of the first playwrights to give an Australian voice, holding a mirror to our world, Jack Hibberd, who died on 31 August, leaves a wonderful legacy. His play Dimboola is the most performed Australian play, while Stretch of the Imagination is the one often described as his best.
A playwright for the Pram Factory (image above), the engine room of Australian performance born in the 1960s, in Carlton, Melbourne, he found writing because he was a medical student at Melbourne Uni - also in Carlton.
He finished his studies to become a doctor and worked as one for many years, while still producing many plays. He was married to actor, Evelyn Krape and had 4 children.
