WHAT TO EXPECT IN TEENAGER?
In the evocative two-person play Teenager, we follow the parallel journeys of Jamie and Alex—two young people navigating the chaos of adolescence in a world saturated by social media and online influence. Both are shaped by the voices they follow: Alex idolises a self-proclaimed “alpha” influencer who preaches dominance, control, and self-worth through gym culture; Jamie looks up to a self-branded activist whose every cause and conviction is filtered through clicks, likes, and discount codes.
As their stories unfold side by side, we see how the pursuit of online ideals distorts their sense of self. Jamie’s activism turns performative, masking deeper anxieties, while Alex’s desire to prove himself leads to self-doubt and emotional withdrawal. Both face the growing tension between who they are and who they think they should be.
Through raw dialogue and heartfelt introspection, Teenager captures the modern struggle for authenticity, mental well-being, and belonging in an age where influence is currency. This powerful exploration of identity and mental health invites audiences to question what it means to be “real” in a world that’s constantly performing.
