When a mysterious illness strikes the town, schoolgirls are forced into their bedrooms. Without a logical cure for the mass hysteria and unable to bear their captivity, the girls move together to defy their oppression.
Told through the eyes of 16-year-old Amelia, this electric monologue bristles with social commentary about the limitations of modern medical practice, and the power of young female resistance.
Returning to the Black Swan program after her play Girl Shut Your Mouth (2016 Victorian Premier’s Literary Award nominee), Gita Bezard’s new play is a dynamic work of humour, complexity and defiance.
