Investment in Research helps create a more equitable society. Government investment in research here is slipping.
Duncan Ivison suggests 3 ways to remedy it:
1) Collaboration in policy and research
Develop a bipartisan approach and include all the academic disciplines
2) Release existing research funds
There are funds sitting in the Education Infrastructure Fund (EIF), release them. And also allow for funding for research materials and infrastructure
3) Establish committee of experts to guide strategic investment in infrastructure
To give a long term vision of where investment should be made
